Who has never had professional family portraits done?
Kathy was right there with you until last month. She had been a fan of my work for a while and finally reached out. See the couch they are on? Well, this couch and her family have quite the history. She was moving and needed the couch to go to a new home. It was her grandparents couch so it was really hard to get rid of. So, she offered it to me! She knew me well enough that I love me some old furniture. Yep! I love it! Isn’t it beautiful?!?!? So of course we needed to incorporate it into their family portraits! It was perfect!
Now for the family history! So interesting! Kathy’s family history dates back to the king of Liechtenstein. Every girl born in the family is a princess (well hello, Princess Kathy) and every first born son is considered a prince. Kathy’s great great grandfather was an embarrassment to his father, the King, because he was quite a drinker. So his dad (the King) put him on a ship bound for America. The prince ended up in North Dakota and married a gal and lived on a farm. The royal family would send trunks full of linens and tapestries to the farm from Lichtenstein. Kathy’s great aunt remembers her great great grandmother swooshing when she walked because she would use the materials for her slips under her dresses because, what else would you do with it on a farm in the middle of North Dakota?
When Kathy’s family members visit Lichtenstein they are treated quite well and they roll out the red for for them at the palace.
Such a fun story! Do you have a family story to tell? Do you know your family history?
Anyway, we had a great time in the snow. It was cold but we made the best of it! I am blessed to get families like the Rayburn’s in front of my camera. They are beautiful people inside and out! They took my advice on clothing and other tips and it resulted in such beautiful portraits! Kathy gets to enjoy her family on her wall on a large canvas wall portrait. Blessed…
